We’ve talked a little bit about citizen journalism and the role that blogs and bloggers can play in telling little known political stories. One of your fellow first-year students at USC has done a great job with a blog that she is keeping for her ENGL 102 class. She started chronicling her political involvement and made a great post about meeting Bill Clinton and asking him why Hillary hasn’t signed the Darfur Action Proposal. She then has a follow up post about getting a call from the Clinton campaign that the proposal has been signed and she could pick it up. This is a great example of what blogs can accomplish and the personal slant on news and events that they can present. Please take a moment to go congratulate Katherine with a comment on her blog or BETTER YET make a post that links to her post. Give your feedback and commentary on it – what do you think about the issue? what sort of accomplishment is this? After you post, check out the Technorati.com statistics on her blog and this post to see what effect your acknowledgment has had on her blog’s popularity.
Introduction and a bit about me January 29, 2008
I am very excited about this semester and working with each of your on improving your writing and reading skills while looking at some interesting features of culture. Let me tell you a bit about me. I just turned 26 years old and I am finishing my Masters degree this semester. I did my undergraduate degree at Carolina as well even though I am originally from Wisconsin. I live near 5 Points and have 2 cats. One of my passions is music and I have spent many years as a DJ and manager at WUSC-FM, the campus radio station. I have a lot of favorite bands but some of the ones I’ve been listing to a lot lately are:
- The Violent Femmes
- The Magnetic Fields
- The Wedding Present
- The Smiths
- Jonathan Richman
- The Jesus and Mary Chain
- Momus
- The Dears
- Stars
- American Analog Set
(Sorry I don’t have time to go create links for all of them but Google is your friend!) Finally, here are some pictures of my cats, Oedipa in the kitchen and Kafka hanging out in bed:
